From misfortune in Sardinia to a hunger for redemption: Lauri Joona eyes a comeback in WRC2 Challenger, while Luca Hoelbling makes his 2025 World Rally debut on the rugged Greek stages. Two different stories, one shared goal: to reach the finish line where rallying becomes legend.
The MS Munaretto team is ready to dive once again into the beating heart of the World Rally Championship, lining up two international crews at the start of the highly anticipated EKO Acropolis Rally – the Greek round famed for its unforgiving gravel roads, extreme conditions, and history steeped in motorsport mythology.
Lauri Joona: chasing redemption after Sardinia
Following a bittersweet outing at Rally Italia Sardegna, where he showcased his full potential by dominating the WRC2 Challenger category until the final stage, Lauri Joona returns with unfinished business. Only a cruel twist of fate denied him a well-deserved victory. Now, alongside co-driver Samu Vaaleri and aboard the Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 bearing number 31, he is set to capitalise on the pace he has already proven. The demanding Greek terrain suits his precise yet aggressive driving style – and this time, the goal is clear: convert speed into a standout result.
Hoelbling steps onto the 2025 world stage
For Luca Hoelbling, the Acropolis marks his first appearance of the 2025 WRC season. After his recent run at Rally Due Valli, the experienced driver from Verona returns to the global stage determined to put his skills to the test on one of the most punishing events on the calendar. By his side is long-time co-driver Mauro Grassi, with whom he shares a strong technical and sporting understanding. The Italian pairing will take on the challenge with a calculated approach, focusing on smart race management to make it through to the finish of one of the WRC’s toughest endurance tests. Like Joona, Hoelbling will be at the wheel of the Czech-built Škoda RS, this time carrying number 74.
The EKO Acropolis Rally stands as a true test of technical resilience and logistical preparation – a battleground where only the most composed and well-prepared teams can shine. Mechanical preservation, strategic pacing, and the ability to adapt to Greece’s extreme and changeable conditions will be key to conquering one of rallying’s most iconic and unforgiving events.
